How does Islamic Epistemology1 function as a prism?
When the nūr of ḥaq2 that we have been guided to by our beloved Messenger3 ﷺ, passes through this prism at the correct angle, it imbues us with the hues of Allah.
As Allah ﷻ states:
2:138 – صبغة الله ومن احسن من الله صبغة ونحن له عبدون
Say, O believers: It is the hue of God alone that is upon our religion. And who is there better than God to dye the human soul with the true hue of His religion! Thus to Him alone we do solemnly devote all our worship.
Similar to a prism requiring clarity for the rainbow effect, the heart must be crystal clear for this divine coloring to manifest.
- { وَاللّٰہُ اَخۡرَجَکُمۡ مِّنۡۢ بُطُوۡنِ اُمَّہٰتِکُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ شَیۡئًا ۙ وَّجَعَلَ لَکُمُ السَّمۡعَ وَالۡاَبۡصَارَ وَالۡاَفۡـِٕدَۃَ ۙ لَعَلَّکُمۡ تَشۡکُرُوۡنَ }
[Surah An-Naḥl: 78] ↩︎ - { لَّا یَاۡتِیۡہِ الۡبَاطِلُ مِنۡۢ بَیۡنِ یَدَیۡہِ وَلَا مِنۡ خَلۡفِہٖ ؕ تَنۡزِیۡلٌ مِّنۡ حَکِیۡمٍ حَمِیۡدٍ }
[Surah Fuṣṣilat: 42] ↩︎ - { یُسَبِّحُ لِلّٰہِ مَا فِی السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ الۡمَلِکِ الۡقُدُّوۡسِ الۡعَزِیۡزِ الۡحَکِیۡمِ (1) ہُوَ الَّذِیۡ بَعَثَ فِی الۡاُمِّیّٖنَ رَسُوۡلًا مِّنۡہُمۡ یَتۡلُوۡا عَلَیۡہِمۡ اٰیٰتِہٖ وَیُزَکِّیۡہِمۡ وَیُعَلِّمُہُمُ الۡکِتٰبَ وَالۡحِکۡمَۃَ ٭ وَاِنۡ کَانُوۡا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ لَفِیۡ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِیۡنٍ ۙ (2) }
