In Our Quest for More Knowledge

Verses

Let charity and kindness be
In every moment of your day
Exuding peace and dignity
In all you do, in every way

To stay the pathway true and straight
Throughout adversity and ease
To serve with love and dedicate
Yourself to worship Al-Azīz

Incline your heart and set your mind
To care for those surrounding you
Without the taint of ill design
To profit from the good you do

Accommodate your nafs away
Beneath the sandals on your feet
That while it feeds on dust you may
A morsel from this banquet eat

Chorus

May Allah raise you when you fall
In the quest for more knowledge
That you may spend your moments, all
In the quest for more knowledge
To never doubt or hesitate
In the quest for more knowledge
And answer the Qasimi call
In the quest

Verses

The less you sleep, the less you speak
The more you stay away from lies
Azīmah be the norm you seek
And rukhsah hated compromise

Relieve your heart of rancor, stand
Against the might of tyrant’s will
The Sunnah be your guiding hand
Avoid all things detestable

Align with ease, adapt and blend
Be patient yet be firm and strong
And let conflicting hearts amend
To work as one and right the wrong

Let worship and remembrance deck
The chambers of your heart and mind
With nūr, while grace and etiquette
Adorn you outwardly in kind

Chorus

May Allah raise you when you fall
In the quest for more knowledge
That you may spend your moments, all
In the quest for more knowledge
To never doubt or hesitate
In the quest for more knowledge
And answer the Qasimi call
In the quest

Verses

Don’t wait to offer aid for that
Is what believers do, respond
To evil with a kindly act
Of unconditional Ihsān

Return your sight inward, ignore
The flaws that are not yours to find
And keep the ties of blood alive
With sweet SubhanAllah in mind.

Befriend the righteous, and depart
From them who lead astray and such
Bestow advice but break no heart,
Receive advice and bear no grudge.

Be generous and be content
When there is less to go around
Remain a trusted, loyal friend
By hands that give but make no sound

Chorus

May Allah raise you when you fall
In the quest for more knowledge
That you may spend your moments, all
In the quest for more knowledge
To never doubt or hesitate
In the quest for more knowledge
And answer the Qasimi call
In the quest

Verses

Now when you give, give equally
To one who needs and one who doesn’t
And share your grounds with friends as if
It was their own, and never wasn’t.

But to the needy show your love
With manner kind and treatment whole
And temper every deed. Enough
Ya Hasbī, Allah’s in control.

Remember: what you give away
Is what you truly own in fact
Remember every favor and
Return it with a better act.

Observe yourself and take account,
Repent! Repent your every sin,
And while you learn, you strive to earn
To keep alive this quest you’re in.

Chorus

May Allah raise you when you fall
In the quest for more knowledge
That you may spend your moments, all
In the quest for more knowledge
To never doubt or hesitate
In the quest for more knowledge
And answer the Qasimi call
In the quest

Verses

Ascend the high and lonely road
All virtue is a steep incline
Forgive when it is hardest to
And mercy isn’t on your mind

Attend your conversations well
To measure each converser, learn
to prize the company of friends
For friendship is a wealth you earn

Obey authority, approach
The erudite. While you afford
Your wealth with generosity,
You hoard the pleasures of your Lord.

Profess your love undyingly
For Allah more than anything
Profess your love undyingly
For Rahmatan Lil-’aalameen

Chorus

May Allah raise you when you fall
In the quest for more knowledge
That you may spend your moments, all
In the quest for more knowledge
To never doubt or hesitate
In the quest for more knowledge
And answer the Qasimi call
In the quest
